Privacy Policy

Overview

SheriaLens is committed to protecting your privacy in compliance with the Data Protection Act 2019 (DPA 2019) of Kenya. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

• Claim submissions: The text of claims you submit for verification. No personal information is attached.
• Channel identifiers: Platform user IDs are SHA-256 hashed before storage. We never store raw phone numbers, names, or email addresses from channel interactions.
• Web portal: Anonymous usage. Optional accounts use email or phone OTP. No tracking cookies.
• Analytics: Aggregated, anonymized usage statistics only.

Your Rights (DPA 2019)

• Right to deletion: Send "DELETE MY DATA" on any channel for instant erasure of all your data.
• Right to access: Send "EXPORT MY DATA" to receive a JSON export of all data associated with your identifier.
• Right to object: Opt out of any profiling via Settings on any channel.

Data Retention

Personal data is retained for a maximum of 12 months, after which it is automatically purged. Published fact-checks (containing no personal data) are retained indefinitely as part of the public record.

Data Storage

All data is stored within GCP africa-south1 (Johannesburg). No personal data is transferred outside the African continent.
